The Story Behind the Mission
A Career Built on Vision, Grit, and Purpose
Lia Smith began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at just 22 years old. What started as a calling to serve others quickly evolved into a vision for something bigger. In 2000, she founded A Better Solution in Home Care (ABS) — and over the next two decades, grew it into one of San Diego's largest and most respected home care agencies, with over 275 caregivers and nurses serving the community.
In 2017, Lia expanded ABS with a Medicare-certified Home Health division, creating a true continuum of care. By 2015, after building the agency to over five million dollars in billable hours, she franchised the ABS brand — extending its reach to over 27 locations nationwide. She is a current board member of CAHSAH and serves as Chair of the San Diego Regional Home Care Council, advocating for senior issues at both the state and local level.
A published author, Lia wrote "Aging with Dignity" to help seniors navigate the complex world of aging. Today, she channels everything she has built, learned, and overcome into her consulting practice — working closely with CEOs and entrepreneurs who are ready to turn their own dreams into reality.
